This recipe for fried sweet potato fries is a perfect side dish. I say it’s the best since these fries are crispy on the outside, yet tender on the inside. I deep fry the sweet potato fries for this recipe, because I really want to mimic that restaurant quality. Try them baked crispy in the oven, or pan-fried for similar results. These fries are gluten, and soy-free.

Cut the ends off of each sweet potato.
Peel skin, then cut into similar size strips. Use a sturdy Y-Peeler to peel the skin easily. I recommend this one (paid Amazon link).
Place the sweet potatoes into a large pot, cover with cold water, and place a lid over the top.
Bring to a boil and boil on medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Drain.
Fill deep fryer with oil of choice about 1/2 to 3/4 full. Set it to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to heat.
Add sweet potatoes to the fryer basket and place carefully into the hot oil.
Fry for 20 minutes or until the desired crispiness. Use a slotted metal spoon to occasionally move the fries so they don’t stick.
Remove and let stand on a plate and pat with a paper towel to remove excess oil. Season as desired. Serve immediately.

Recipe Tips
Select sweet potatoes of similar size and shape.
Cut your sweet potatoes evenly making the strips the same size.
Parboil your sweet potatoes. I use a technique called parboiling. If you tried my Jicama Fries Recipe then you are familiar with this technique. You can find more information about parboiling here. I parboil the sweet potatoes to soften them up just a bit before frying. This reduces the cooking time and ensures that the fries will be crispy, not mushy. Don’t skip this step.
Keep your oil temperature consistent at 375 degrees Fahrenheit, otherwise your fries cook unevenly and won’t crisp.
Flavor Variations
Experiment with seasoning for a different flavor. We love these fried sweet potato fries with salt, but try them with my Gluten-Free Barbecue Spice Mix for a spicy version.
