1. Knives and Knife Sharpener
Buy the best knives you can afford because they will last you for many years. You can buy knives in a set, but if you are a beginner, or want to save money you really only need 3 good knives. A paring knife, a chef's knife, and a serrated knife. These are the basics of any kitchen. Trust me, you will use them a lot.
After all that use your knives will become dull, so a knife sharpener is also a must-have kitchen item.

2. Cutting Boards
Cutting boards are another must-have kitchen tool. I recommend having at least 2 cutting boards. One for cutting produce and other foods, and one specifically for cutting meats. If you have allergies, I recommend having another cutting board dedicated to allergy-free foods. This ensures you avoid all possibilities of cross-contamination. I recommend using wood cutting boards. They help keep your knives sharp and are easy to clean.

3. Mixing Bowls
No kitchen is complete without a set of mixing bowls in various sizes. These are especially important when cooking allergy-free. Many recipes have gluten-free flours mixed in one bowl and wet ingredients in another. I recommend glass, stainless steel, or ceramic bowls since they don't absorb odors or stains. These materials are also best for cooking allergy-free, with minimal risk of cross-contamination.

4. Measuring Cups and Spoons
Every kitchen needs one set of measuring cups for measuring liquids, and one set for measuring dry ingredients such as flour. A set of measuring spoons is also essential. Your set of measuring spoons should include 1/8 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon measurements.

Stainless steel pots and pans are my favorite. They are sturdy, cook evenly, and clean up with ease. They are a wonderful asset for any kitchen. I've had mine for over 10 years and with proper care, they will last a lifetime. I recommend buying your cookware in a set.

8. Spatulas
Every basic kitchen needs a good heat-resistant silicone spatula, preferably in different sizes. A good quality spatula should stand up to temperatures between 375-450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Colanders are a basic kitchen item. From washing and rinsing produce to draining pasta, this is something you shouldn't overlook. I recommend purchasing a metal colander. They are dishwasher safe, sturdy, and last longer than plastic.

A pressure cooker is perfect for busy moms who need to get a meal on the table quickly. It can be a little bit intimidating at first, but once you learn how to use one, you'll be amazed at how easy dinners can be. I love that you can cook frozen meat in just a short amount of time. If you invest in one must-have kitchen appliance, this is it. I use mine at least once a week, even in the summer months.
