Need kitchen gift ideas? With Christmas just around the corner now's the perfect time to start your shopping. Every kitchen needs the right tools. They are the first step to making a great meal. Not only that, the proper kitchen tools will save you time, and make cooking more enjoyable.

So just what does a basic Kitchen need? Keep reading for some of the best must-have kitchen tools.

1. Knives and Knife Sharpener

Buy the best knives you can afford because they will last you for many years. You can buy knives in a set, but if you are a beginner, or want to save money you really only need 3 good knies. A paring knife, a chef's knife, and a serrated knife. These are the basics of any kitchen. Trust me, you will use them a lot.

After all that use your knives will become dull, so a knife sharpener is also a must-have kitchen item. This is an inexpensive knife sharpener (paid Amazon link) that is simple to use and easy to store. It will keep all of your knives sharp.

2. Cutting Boards

Cutting boards are another must-have kitchen tool. I recommend having at least 2 cutting boards. One for cutting produce and other foods, and one specifically for cutting meats. If you have allergies, I recommend having another cutting board dedicated to allergy-free foods. This ensures you avoid all possibilities of cross-contamination. I recommend using wood cutting boards. They help keep your knives sharp and are easy to clean.

3. Mixing Bowls

No kitchen is complete without a set of mixing bowls in various sizes. These are especially important when cooking allergy-free. Many recipes have gluten-free flours mixed in one bowl and wet ingredients in another. I recommend glass, stainless steel, or ceramic bowls since they don't absorb odors or stains. These materials are also best for cooking allergy-free, with minimal risk of cross-contamination.
