Recipe Tips
The keys to this grilled turkey burger recipe are keeping the meat from falling apart and drying out while cooking.
How to Keep Turkey Burgers from Falling Apart
- Make up your burger patties. Handle the meat as little as possible by gently pressing it out with your hands.
- Chill the burger patties in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before grilling.
How to Keep Turkey Burgers from Drying Out
- Add 1/8 tsp. oil to the center of the burger on both sides and rub to coat the entire burger. I like this avocado oil from Thrive Market (paid Affiliate link).
- With a teaspoon, (or your clean finger) make an indention in the center of the burger. This keeps the burgers from drying out and keeps them from shrinking up while cooking.
What Temperature to Grill Turkey Burgers?
- Turkey burgers cook best on medium-high, direct heat at approximately 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
How Long do Turkey Burgers take on the Grill?
- Grill burgers for 4-6 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness.
- Grill until a thermometer inserted into the center of the burger reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. This method is the most accurate.
Other Tips
- If using cheese, add it with about 2 minutes left to cook. To make this recipe dairy-free I recommend using Daiya cheddar cheese slices.
- To make this grilled turkey burger recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free buns. I recommend Udi’s Gluten-Free Classic Hamburger Buns.
- This recipe can be made using a cast iron or heavy skillet if you don’t have a propane grill. I recommend Lodge Cast Iron Skillet.
