How to Make This Recipe

Follow these simple steps to make this fluffy, delicious, dairy-free whipped cream recipe for all your favorite desserts.

  • Drain 1 can of chickpeas reserving the liquid.
  • Pour the liquid into a large mixing bowl. Using a stand or hand-held mixer with the whisk attachment (paid Amazon link) beat the liquid on medium speed until it becomes foamy.
  • Add cream of tartar and mix for 5-6 minutes at high speed.
  • Add vanilla extract and beat on medium speed for 1 minute.
  • Gradually add powdered sugar while continuously mixing at high speed. Keep mixing until the vanilla and sugar are thoroughly mixed in and the mixture becomes very fluffy. This will take approximately 10-12 minutes.
  • Remove from the bowl.
  • Serve immediately.

This recipe uses aquafaba. I know right? I had not heard of this either until I started doing some research. So what is aquafaba? It’s a term used in vegan cooking and refers to the liquid in which chickpeas are cooked. Aquafaba is used as a substitution for egg whites in vegan cooking. For this recipe, it’s what gives the whipped cream the light, fluffy consistency. To make aquafaba simply drain the liquid from a can of chickpeas or save the liquid after cooking them.

  • dairy-free whipped cream recipe beat aquafaba liquid until it foams
  • dairy-free whipped cream recipe beat until soft peaks form
  • dairy-free whipped cream recipe add vanilla to bowl
  • dairy-free whipped cream recipe add powdered sugar to mixture
  • dairy-free whipped cream recipe mixed completely
Steps for making dairy-free whipped cream.

How to Store Dairy-Free Whipped Cream

This whipped cream is best when served immediately. It will quickly lose its fluffiness in the refrigerator. To store leftovers, place them in an airtight container leaving some room for expansion. Freeze for up to 2 months.

When ready to use, defrost the whipped cream in the refrigerator for a few hours. Fluff with a fork and serve.

Is There a Dairy-Free Whipped Cream?

There are non-dairy whipped cream brands available. Reddi-Whip makes almond milk and coconut milk non-dairy whipped creams. These are labeled non-dairy but may not be completely dairy-free. Check labels and ingredients carefully.
