Homemade Substitute for Half-and-Half
I made this recipe for dairy-free half-and-half since I make several recipes that call for this ingredient. Unfortunately, I am unable to find a store-bought substitute to meet all of my food allergy needs. This recipe is the next best thing for me. I use a blend of oat milk and a non-dairy butter substitute. It works well in my recipes that call for half-and-half. If you’re working around multiple food allergies, such as nuts and soy, I have found this to be a great alternative.
Is there a Dairy-Free Half-and-Half?
There are several store-bought brands of dairy-free half-and-half substitutes. Many of these brands are available at your local grocery store, Walmart, and Target. Silk makes a dairy-free half-and-half made with almond milk. California Farms has a dairy-free substitute called Better Half, and Ripple has one as well. While all of these brands are dairy-free, just remember to read all labels carefully.
What is a Dairy-Free Substitute for Half-and-Half?
If you want to make your own half-and-half, you can use regular canned coconut milk as a substitute, although it will not be as creamy. You can also use coconut cream, blended with any non-dairy milk. Blend a can of coconut cream with 1/2 cup of non-dairy milk.
